I just got this in the mail for spouse:http://www.bronners.com/1105826.html
It's even better in person! Actually, there are a LOT of bagpipe ornaments out there, some even play a song when you squeeze the little bag, LOL. Only saw one drummer ornament though. I almost forgot that I set the link aside, months ago!
I also saw this:http://fmmall.com/viewpic.cfm?Cat=78&Item=2308
Haven't decided if I'm going to get it. Don't want to climb on the roof every time there's a hurricane.

I hope this isnt considered spam, because I have a genuine interest in both bagpipes and the official uniform worn by bagpipers. As such, I would like to ask an obscure question regarding the uniform of a bagpiper.
I have always wanted to know- what the name of the white sock-type (for want of a better word) things worn over a bagpipers shoes when in full military uniform/style?
I have included a picture below the cut.( See the white things over his shoes...Collapse )
Thanks in advance to anyone who can answer my question... it has been bugging me for ages, and no amount of googleing or wikipedia searches has been able shed any light on the situation. Current Mood: curious

Behind the cut you'll find a screen cap of an email sent out by Audible.com which states that the Irish Literary Tradition is weak, and they suggest everyone listen to three tales of Irish life: in the form of three stories of alcoholics.
Isn't it funny how it's not ok to stereotype any other ethnic group, but it's ok to paint the Irish as nothing but drunks?( Read more...Collapse )
If you're offended too, I suggest you write to firstname.lastname@example.org.

Each lesson my instructor keeps telling me either "We'll start the next song next week," or "We'll start you on the pipes next week"
It's getting annoying. He's been saying that since November. I've been playing since November 2005 and I have three songs under my belt and have started to teach some to myself from my home band's book (taking lessons at my college). I feel like I'm slowly crawling towards the finish line.
Hopefully I will be accepted to the Ohio Scottish Arts school this summer and that will really help me get moving, but I want to be able to become a member of my home band before Fall semester 07....
So basically I'm not moving as fast as I would like and there's not much I can do about it, really...

Felt I'd share with those who understand
Attempting to practise bagpipes with a developing chest cold is an exercise in futility and frustration. I lasted 20 minutes of really poor practising before giving up and moving on to practise the drum. Grrrrr. Not fair. Current Mood: sick

While at work earlier today, I was amused by one of the songs I was listening to. I don't know how often this happens to other newbies, but I was listening to a song by Corvus Corax and realised that the main theme of the piper's part was the set of arpeggios that I am currently learning. K. said that they were important and this is definitive proof (as if I needed it). Current Mood: cranky

I too am a newbie...sort of. Okay, I just restarted learning the bagpipes after a 6 year hiatus, and I must say that I love it. My neighbors, on the other hand, might not be as thrilled as I am. I did, however, forget how tired your right hand can get! It's either I forgot how hard on the hand it is, or I shouldn't practise for 25 min. directly after doing my upper body weights workout. I am determined to get to the full pipes by St. Patrick's day. If that doesn't fly, then at least by the time I go to Colorado for the Dark Arts Festival next year. Gothy goodness and pipes...what more could anyone want? Current Mood: amused
